Brushing the edges of PcBN inserts enhances tool life significantly by a factor of two or three times. The brushing process removes the grinding marks which tend to initiate premature cracks on these brittle tool materials. Brushing PCD edge is also becoming popular.
There are 3 machine options available:
BM2A – this is a three station machine and is filted with a spindle drive rather than a motor. The PCD_PCBN/PCD tipped inserts are held in carriers at each statio. The stations move in a planetary motion and the brush, suitably loaded with diamond powder/paste, works from above. The brush load can be adjusted and the brushing time and brush rotation direction are timer controlled.
BM2B – this has the same 3 stations , as above, but uses a motor for the main drive.
BM3A - this is a single station machine with a spindle drive for lower volumes of production.
BM3B – this is a single station machine with an economy motor drive.
