Optical Systems for machines without a touch-screen controller

Various optical systems are available for Coborn’s manual machines.  

·       Microscope
·       Optical projector
·       VS5-G Vision system (stand alone system)

A microscope or a projector provides an economy optical solution but increasingly, users prefer the convenience of the VS5-G vision system which consists of a fire-wire camera, PC and LCD display. This system can be retro-fitted to older machines if required. The graticule is generated electronically and superimposed over the tool image.  The image can be further digitally magnified for closer inspection.

The best image for all these optical systems comes from the fixed magnification lenses but a zoom lens can also be fitted if preferred.

Optical Systems for machines with a touch-screen controller

In situations where the manual machine is controlled through a touch-screen (e.g. RG5B-XD or PG3-B) then a projector can still be used but it is convenient to use the internal computer and screen of the machine to display the tool image generated by a fire-wire camera as shown in the option diagram below.

VS5-G+M

An additional software, measurement module (+M) can be added to the VS5-G.  It is only accurate if fixed magnification lenses are used. The system allows a pair of moveable, vertical or horizontal lines to be shown on the screen.  The system will then automatically detect the edge of the tool and either show the distance of the highest point of the tool from the pivot centre (see diagram below) or the width of the tool between the two selected lines.
